Class is back in session! Four new lessons just dropped in Intro to Cowork for Writers, and I have family news: scheduled tasks and skills had babies.
Aren’t they cute?
They’re called artifacts, and Project 2 is all about putting them to work in your author business. They were formerly called live artifacts, but Anthropic has been rearranging the furniture again, in a good way. Now all artifacts can be live artifacts, and that’s great news.
Here’s the problem they solve: You ask your AI “how’s my launch going,” you get a beautiful answer, and three days later you’re asking the same question again, because the answers get buried in the chat threads.
An artifact turns those answers into something you can find and use over and over again: a dashboard, a report, a tracker you can reopen tomorrow, share with your VA, and refresh with new data.
A chat answer is a conversation. An artifact is a possession.
But Kim, I’m a writer, not a data analyst. I don’t even have a “command center.”
You don’t need one. I have a command center and I love it dearly, but it came later. The dashboards came first. You don’t need a command center. You just need data, and you already have it: a spreadsheet, a Notion page, a report you can export, a connector Claude can read.
Start where you are. Describe the dashboard you wish existed. Attach/connect data as needed. And boom, you’ve got one.
Talking is the skill. Same as it’s been all course.
🔭 What’s in the New Lessons
There’s so much good stuffy stuff:
A real post-mortem with real money on the line. I open up four years of my own BookBub Featured Deals on the Black Kat series and let an artifact make sense of them: which deals paid, which month spiked ≈2,000% over baseline, and the diminishing-returns curve that made me stop buying them.
The Brass Ledger. We take the market data our Story Trend Scout gathered in Project 1 and ask for a dashboard. What comes back is a steampunk-colored intelligence briefing: what’s selling, what’s fading, what covers look like, and a verdict strip that practically writes the marketing plan. Project 1 built the scout. Project 2 builds the map room.
A dashboard for numbers that don’t exist yet. Goals are data too, and we tour a full 2027 plan for a fictional author, with a monthly scoreboard where the targets stand waiting and the actuals arrive one by one to shake hands with them, or not. Both are worth seeing. The plan and the scoreboard are the same page, and a plan that updates beats a plan in a drawer. Every time.
And then the scary one. No demo data, no net. I open my own half-finished book, the one life kept interrupting for two years, and I let the math tell me the truth about my deadline on camera. Because a deadline you’re afraid to look at is already costing you.
